Self-expandable nitinol esophageal stent for treatment of variceal bleeding.
Self-expandable nitinol stent (SX-ELLA Stent Danis ) was used in a patient with cirrhosis and uncontrollable esophageal variceal bleeding as a rescue procedure.
Danis stent
- Removable stent for treatment of bleeding esophageal varices
- Secure hemostasis through direct compression of varices
- Contraindications are esophageal strictures, recent radiotherapy of the esophagus, tumors of the upper respiratory tract, esophagus or stomach
- Implantation is possible without the need for endoscopy or X-Ray control
Several pilot studies suggests that the method is effective and safe, but these results will have to be confirmed by further comparative studies carried out on a larger number of patients.
