Depressed adenoma

Tuesday 07 July 2009, Branislav Kunčak, M. D.

Depressed colorectal neoplastic lesions (Paris type IIc lesions) have a high malignant potential. The incidence of high-grade dysplasia or invasive carcinoma in depressed lesions is higher compared with lesions of the same size without depression.

  • Absolutely depressed lesion (0-IIc): the level of the depression is lower than the level of the adjacent normal mucosa
  • Relatively depressed lesion (0-IIa + IIc): part of the lesion is depressed, but the level of the depression is still higher than the level of the normal adjacent mucosa
