Backwash ileitis

Backwash ileitis in UC.

Involvement of the distal ileum in ulcerative colitis is termed backwash ileitis. Inlamatory changes of ileal mucosa correlats with the colitis activity level in the cecum. Ileocaecal valve insufficiency often accompanies backwash ileitis.
